Ms McKevitt’s Gaeilge Stations

Ms McKevitt’s 3rd class boys have been working really hard at their Gaeilge lately in their stations (small groups). They have been concentrating on writing sentences and stories using past tense verbs. Maith sibh, buachaillí!

Check out some of the action below!

Following on from this the boys were treated to a soccer session courtesy of coaches from Shelbourne FC.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Many thanks to the members of JP Morgan, FAI, ICI and Shelbourne FC who attended.

Chess Tournament at St Pat’s!

St Pat’s BNS co-hosted a one day chess tournament with Féile Fichille on the 1st of March.

We were delighted to welcome the following schools:
St Mary’s Primary School, Scoil Assam BNS, Holy Spirit BNS, Scoil Chiaráin CBS and St Joseph’s, Fairview.

Four teams from Mr Skelly’s 5th class represented our school.

Two boys from Mr Moore’s class and one from Ms Savage’s class also joined the St Pat’s teams.

The hall was full to capacity and each boy played six games.

There was plenty of concentration and a wonderful demonstration of skill from the moment the bell rang at the start of each game.

Handshakes at the end and a presentation of certificates rounded off a busy day.

Well done to all involved!

5th class visit the Hugh Lane Gallery

The two 5th classes recently visited the Hugh Lane art gallery on Parnell Square to see a collection of modern and contemporary Irish and international art.
The boys also saw the beautiful stained glass room and the reconstructed studio of Frances Bacon, which was completely transplanted from London to Dublin.

World Book Day at St Pat’s!

We had a super day celebrating World Book Day recently!

Lots of children ‘snuggled up with a book’, while others chose to dress as their favourite character from a book.

We hosted a Book Fair for all the pupils and lots of classes took the opportunity to have some extra DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read)!

It was lovely seeing ‘Book Buddies’ around the school, where older pupils helped younger boys with their reading.

Take a look at these photos capturing all the action!

Science Blast at the RDS!

At the end of February Mr Moore’s 6th class boys and the Senior DLD class took part in the ESB Science Blast at the RDS.

Science Blast is a free, non-competitive educational programme for primary schools (3rd to 6th class), that involves the whole class investigating the science behind a simple question.

The following article, written by one of our 6th class pupils, gives an account of the RDS trip:

On Monday the 27th of February we went to the RDS for the Science Blast. Our question was: Do the shoes you wear affect how fast you can run?

For the experiment we decided to do our tests on the DCU pitch. We did a number of tests like sprints and long distance. Then we decided to display the information on a bar chart with different shoes as the bars on the chart.

At the event the judges loved the creative designs of the shoes we drew. They liked our team work and that we were able to work together so that everyone got to try everything.

It was a great experience and everyone enjoyed buying food and looking at other projects. We would like to thank Mr Moore, Ms Collins and Sandra for their help.

6th class learn French!

The two 6th classes have been participating in the Primary Schools Languages Sampler where they have been learning French and studying French culture.
Check out their linguistic portraits below!
They have also been studying word cognates (where words in different languages sound the same).
The boys are not afraid to take some linguistic risks and will be undertaking some language challenges in the coming weeks..!
By the end of our eight sessions we hope to design simple board games in French.
Well done to all our 6th class linguists!      🇫🇷

Animal Projects in 1st class!

Mr Moraghan’s 1st class boys have just completed their Animal Projects.

Each pupil chose an animal and researched facts about it.

They all did such an amazing job, including wonderful presentations to the entire class.

Some of the projects are on posters and others are in digital format, using Powerpoint or video.

They should all be very proud!

Talk from Author Dave Rudden

Today our fourth, fifth and sixth class boys, and our Senior DLD class, were delighted to attend a talk in DCU St Patrick’s Campus given by author Dave Rudden.

Dave Rudden has spent the last year as ‘writer in residence’ in DCU St Patrick’s campus. He is best known for his book series ‘Knights of the Borrowed Dark’, which is currently being made into a television series. He also writes ‘Doctor Who’ books for the BBC.

Today he spoke about his job as an author and shared some tips for children to train their imagination and their creative muscles.

The boys really enjoyed the talk, and some were lucky enough to get their own books signed as well!
