A group of students from the fourth, fifth, sixth and senior language classes enjoyed a fantastic day at the Brother Schools Cross-Country event in Santry on 7 October.
Held at the Trinity sports grounds on Santry Avenue on a beautiful autumn morning, the event attracted almost 2,000 runners from primary and secondary schools all across Dublin. In the primary school section, there were races for girls and boys at fourth, fifth and sixth class level.
The course was a demanding 1,000 metre (1km) loop of the playing fields. Our team – consisting of 21 students in total – was well up for the challenge, however. In the sixth class race, Daniel Corrigan and Fionn Coghlan-Smith came in third and fourth, respectively, out of a field of some 250 runners – an incredible achievement. Meanwhile, in the fifth class race, St Pat’s took a team bronze and Odhran Reynolds narrowly missed out on the medals when he ran a fantastic race to come in fourth in another huge field of runners. Our team from fourth class ran their hearts out, too, with Conan O’Leary making it into the top ten at the finish.
All of our athletes received a souvenir tee-shirt for their trouble and went back happy on the bus to Drumcondra.
