A Message from the Board of Management

18 May 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians and members of the extended St Patrick’s Boys' National School Community,

Little did we imagine when we began to think about how best to celebrate 125 years of our school that the school buildings would be closed, our teachers and students at home, confirmations and communions postponed, and that March 12th would be our last day at school for at least six months.

But the world changed and we have adopted new ways of living and learning. At a recent meeting the Board of Management decided to ask Ms Bassett to share this note on the website because we wanted to acknowledge the support given by parents/guardians and the wider school community to the school over the last number of weeks. The messages of support have been really appreciated.

We also wanted to thank Ms Bassett, Mr Duffy, the teachers and all the staff of the school for how they have responded to the school closure and have been staying connected to the boys through Aladdin, and through pre-recorded messages. Their priority has been to ensure that all the students can access this support at a time that suits them and their families, bearing in mind that not all families have reliable internet access or devices.

The  fifth class teachers have started to trial Google  Meets for some ‘live’ interaction. We want to thank these teachers for being the trail blazers, and we look forward to the feedback from students, parents and teachers as to how and whether this was effective, and whether it was accessible to all. This trial will be important for planning for September as it looks as if, like all schools, we may have some restrictions imposed on us by public health regulations. Other class teachers will continue to review their current practices also, in planning for September.

Ms Bassett and the team have been thinking about how to mark the sixth class graduation , and the senior infant graduation this year, and she will be in touch with the boys and their families about this shortly.

Beir bua,

Anne Looney

Chairperson
