The Green School Committee find out how Sustainable Dublin Airport is.

The Green School Committee together with Mr Kilcrann, Ms. O' Brien and Mandy visited Dublin Airport on Thursday the 5th of March to see first hand their sustainability projects in Terminal 1 & 2. They were hosted by the Dublin Airport Authority communications department. During their visit they met with the various heads of department who look after all sustainable departments from water and energy to waste.

Following a question and answer session in their high tech. control room on level 5, they were then ushered to another board room for a very interesting video presentation on the behind the scenes operation at Dublin Airport. From there the manager in charge of waste management, brought us to see the recycling plant, and spoke about the various jobs that were going on at the time of our visit on site. From there the manager in charge of energy, brought us to see the energy plant, normally out of bounds to the general public, and even plant staff (as it is controlled by 2 separate computers in another room) we got the chance to enter the very noisy plant room, while wearing ultra cool ear muff's!!! Before leaving we had a final opportunity for last questions, before returning to the terminal building for our lunch. The boys each received lovely goodie bags, and they were thrilled as we headed for the bus. A huge thank you to all involved at the DAA for their generous time and effort in making this a very worthwhile visit for the committee ahead of our assessment visit after Easter by An Taisce.
