Green School Overview

The Green School Project is a nationwide project run in conjunction with An Taisce and we here in St. Patrick’s Boy’s School are supported by Dublin City Council with the project. This year our work continues throughout the school as we strive to achieve our second Green Flag for our school under the theme of Energy. The programme is designed to encourage and acknowledge whole school action in caring for our environment. This year and last years theme is “Energy” and we have set ourselves achievable targets to reduce our energy bills, by switching off lights, keeping doors closed to maintain heat in our classrooms as well as ensuring that when not in use things are swtiched off, so we conserve energy. This year we must also renew our first flag under the theme of litter and waste so we continue and build on the great achievements of all here in St. Patrick’s as well as you the parents and guardians of the boys. So keep up the interest in discussing regularly with the boys, the ongoing work in the school on this Green School project. During the month of February we had energy awareness month, which included an action day during which we had all our home school energy pledges on display in the hall.
We concluded with an assembly which included readings of poems and stories written by the various class levels, prizes were presented for the best thought out pledges, as well as for the best dressed energy mascot on the day. The school has been a very busy place over the past few months, in February the Green School Committee completed a workshop on energy, while the infant classes completed theirs in March. We also highlighted Earth Hour in recent days, and on March 22nd we had our final assessment towards renewal of our Litter and Waste flag, while at the same time applying for our Energy. The Green School committee did the whole school proud during the meeting with Clare Egan of Dublin City Council, and the classes visited excelled with their response to the questions and topics raised by Clare, who is Green School Co-ordinator with DCC. We are watching out for the postman over the next few weeks, and we will let you know as soon as we hear if we have been successful.
Our motto here in St. Patrick’s is Green School + Green Home = Greener Planet Earth
Together we can all make a difference!!
